The
grand landscaped gardens of Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire are
the backdrop for this large mosaic, completed in 2006. Made in memory
of the late Marquess, the design takes, as a starting point, the
family crest, which has interesting “beasts” & a
wheat sheaf. Maggy re-drew these elements in a more lively style
& wove the elements together to make the best effect with the
pebbles. The decorative border has a ceramic image in the centre
of each scroll, which was a way of showing some of the interests
of the Marquess without compromising the overall design. There are
regimental insignia, military drums, pheasants & foxes, pedigree
bulls, & lots of horses. The garden is open to the public 3 days
a week from Easter to September.
